Gas Porsche Macan Discontinued: Why and What’s Next

porsche macan gasoline phase out

Gas Porsche Macan discontinued: Porsche is ending production of the gasoline Macan in mid-2026, and the electric Macan becomes the only Macan on sale. Dealers in markets outside the EU may keep selling remaining gas stock into 2027, and a gas and hybrid replacement is expected around 2028 under a different name.

Quick Answer

Porsche has said gas Macan production ends in summer 2026. The first-generation Macan has sold about one million units in total, including some electric models. The EU withdrawal came earlier because the car did not meet newer cybersecurity rules. Until the replacement arrives, the Macan Electric is the only Macan.

Gas Porsche Macan discontinued as production ends in 2026

Gas Porsche Macan discontinued: the timeline

When What happened
2014 The first-generation gasoline Macan reaches buyers
2024-2025 Porsche pulls the gas Macan from most European countries
Mid-2026 Gasoline Macan production ends, per Porsche’s finance chief
2026-2027 Remaining gas stock continues to sell in some non-EU markets
About 2028 A gas and hybrid crossover is expected below the Cayenne, and it will not be called Macan

Details come from Motor1’s report on the announcement. Porsche has not published a fixed last-build date for every market, so treat exact dates as approximate.

Why Porsche is ending the gas Macan

Motor1 reports that the gas Macan failed new cybersecurity requirements under the EU’s General Safety Regulation, which is why it left Europe first. Porsche has also been moving its Macan line to an electric-only second generation.

The gas car was still a strong seller: Motor1 notes it was Porsche’s second-best seller in 2023, with about 87,000 units.

What the final gas Macan offered

Lineups differ by market and model year. Porsche’s recent gas range used these engines, all with a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive:

Version Engine Output
Macan / Macan T 2.0L turbo four 261 hp
Macan S 2.9L twin-turbo V6 375 hp
Macan GTS 2.9L twin-turbo V6 434 hp

Porsche’s own 0-60 mph claims range from about 6.0 seconds for the base car to about 4.3 seconds for the GTS. Canadian cars may not offer every version, so check Porsche Canada for what your dealer still has.

Gas Macan vs Macan Electric

  • Power: the Macan Electric range tops out at up to 630 hp, well above the best gas Macan.
  • Range and charging: Auto123 lists up to 507 km of range for the Canadian-market electric Macan. Cold winters will reduce that.
  • Refuelling: a gas Macan refuels in minutes, which suits long road trips and areas with sparse fast chargers.
  • Price: electric Macan pricing in Canada is higher than the gas car’s. Check current listings.

Should you buy a gas Macan now?

Buy now if you want a combustion Porsche SUV with a new-car warranty and your dealer still has stock. Porsche built up inventory ahead of the end of production, according to Motor1, so supply may last into 2027, but it will not be replenished.

  • Ask your dealer which engine and options are still available in Canada.
  • Compare against a used Macan, and check service history, PDK servicing and any open recalls.
  • Do not assume the end of production will raise resale values. That is speculation.
